UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul ends week up

UPDATES WITH MORE DAILY FIGURES

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Friday up 0.41 percent to close at 94,883.47 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 386.67 points, up from Thursday's close of 94,496.80 points, while it started the last trading day at 94,354.64 points.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index declined nearly 5 percent, compared with its close at 99,956.90 points on Sept. 28.

The BIST 100's daily-low was 93,169.15 points while the index hit 95,025.95 points during Friday's trading. Compared with the previous close, 68 stocks on the index rose, 29 fell, and three were flat.

The BIST technology index was the strongest performer with a 4.23-percent jump, and the BIST wholesale and retail trade index performed the worst, falling 2.21 percent.

Stocks of real estate investment trust Alarko gained most — up 8.65 percent –, while shares of an electrical industry company Gersan declined the most, going down 6.99 percent.

On Friday, the total market value of the BIST 100's listed companies was around 624 billion liras ($102 billion) with a trading volume of 7.2 billion liras ($1.17 billion).

Trade volume leaders were private lender Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense company Aselsan, private lender Akbank, and telecommunications company Turk Telekom.

Regarding market capitalization, the top listed companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.63 billion), iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik ($6.37 billion), and energy giant Tupras ($5.54 billion).

At the daily close, the USD/TRY exchange rate was 6.1280, down from Thursday's close of 6.1490. This week, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed 1.75 percent compared to last Friday's close.

The euro/lira rate was 7.0640, versus 7.1020 at the previous close, and one British pound traded for 8.0370 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 8.0120 at close on Thursday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was $1,202.90 at the daily close, while the price was $1,203.00 at close on Thursday.

As of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at around $84.70 per barrel, hovering between $84.08 and $85.12 over the course of Friday.

Since the beginning of this year, Brent oil price has risen from $66 a barrel.
