UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul ends week below 100,000 points

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended down 0.34 percent Friday to close at 99,956.90 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index saw a 341.83-point fall from Thursday's close of 100,298.73 points, while it started the last trading day at 100,427.37 points.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index surged 2 percent, compared with its close at 97,988.16 points on Sept. 21.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100's lowest level was recorded at 99,173.71 points, while it hit 100,473.01 points as daily peak.

On a daily basis, 39 stocks on the index rose, 51 fell, and 10 were flat compared to the previous close.

Among all sector indices, the BIST textile leather index was the top gainer — up 2.73 percent — while the BIST food beverage index did the worst, falling 1.76 percent.

Shares bedding and furniture company Yatas climbed the most with a 12.69 percent hike, and stocks of casting producer Cemas Dokum (CEMAS) showed the largest decline on Friday, going down 6.71 percent.

The market value of listed stocks on the BIST 100 amounted to some 653 billion Turkish liras ($107.5 billion) with a total trade volume of 10.05 billion Turkish liras ($1.67 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding was the top company with around $7.12 billion, followed by iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik ($6.35 billion) and energy giant Tupras ($5.53 billion).

Trade volume leaders of the day were private lenders Garanti and Yapi Kredi, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, another private lender Akbank, and prominent defense company ASELSAN.

By market close, one U.S. dollar traded for 6.0230 Turkish liras, versus 5.9950 at Thursday's close. This week, the USD/TRY rate recorded a 4.27-percent drop compared with last Friday's close.

The euro/lira rate was 6.9750, down from 7.0250 at the previous close, and the GBP/TRY exchange rate fell to 7.8150, while one British pound traded for 7.8920 Turkish liras at Thursday's close.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold traded for $1,182.80 at weekly close, compared with $1,195.50 at close on Thursday.

As of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at around $82.72 per barrel, hovering between $81.29 and $82.88 through Friday.

Since the beginning of this year, Brent oil price has risen from $66 a barrel.
