UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down 0.37% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 114.364,53 points on Tuesday, down 0.37% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 115,626.05 points. As of the daily close, it had lost 424.68 points from Monday's close of 114,789.21 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 113,850.42 points and 115,991.78 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 797.1 billion Turkish liras ($129.86 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.57 billion Turkish liras ($2.37 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 39 stocks on the index rose, 53 were down, and eight were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by defense giant Aselsan, private lender Garanti, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Real investment trust company Alarko Gyo was the best performer, with its shares up 19.98%, while conglomerate Eczacibasi Holding dropped the most, losing 3.26%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,648.70 by market close, down from $1,681.60 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $55.20 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
