UPDATE – 4 killed as minibus collides with truck in SE Turkey

UPDATES WITH STATEMENT BY HAKKARI GOVERNORSHIP

HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – At least four people were killed and seven others wounded when a passenger minibus collided with an 18-wheeler truck in southeastern Turkey on Monday, authorities said.

The incident took place in the Yuksekova district of Hakkari province at around 9 a.m. local time (0600GMT) when visibility was impaired due to foggy weather, according to a statement by the provincial governorship.

The minibus was traveling to the eastern Van province.

Gendarmerie forces secured the area, while the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), fire department and medical teams transferred the wounded people to the Yuksekova State Hospital.

The bodies of the four deceased were taken to the morgue of the same hospital.

An investigation into the accident has been launched, the Hakkari Governorate said.

“May Allah’s mercy be upon our deceased citizens, and we wish speedy recovery to the wounded,” the statement added.
