LONDON (AA) – An explosion on a London Underground train on Friday morning is now being treated as a “terrorist incident”, British police have confirmed.

London’s Metropolitan Police said the emergency services were called to Parsons Green station at 8.20 a.m. Friday morning after reports of a fire on a train.

Counterterrorist police have now declared it a terrorist incident, the Met added.

Prime Minister Theresa May will attend an emergency security COBRA meeting on Friday afternoon.

The west London station and roads around it are cordoned off by police and emergency services. Police have said “a number of people suffered injuries” in the blast.

Police also advised people to avoid the area. Footage from the scene also showed passengers being led off a train by police.

The capital’s ambulance service said it had sent a special hazardous area response team to the scene, amid reports of a white substance being found.

Britain has been on high alert this year after dozens of people lost their lives in a series of terror incidents in London and Manchester.
