LONDON (AA) – Manchester United’s final match of the football season on Sunday was abandoned after a suspect package was discovered at the club’s ground.

The Premier League game against Bournemouth was called off after two stands at Old Trafford stadium were evacuated less than half an hour before kick-off at 3 p.m. local time (1400 GMT).

Manchester United’s official Twitter account posted: “Due to the discovery of a suspect package in the NW Quadrant of the ground, the match has been abandoned today on police advice.”

Old Trafford is one of the largest football grounds in England with a maximum crowd capacity of 75,635.

The club had not yet confirmed the attendance for Sunday’s game, which would have seen United compete for the final remaining berth in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
