Turkish taxi driver hailed as hero in Sweden

STOCKHOLM (AA) – A Turkish-born taxi driver in Sweden was awarded by his company on Thursday for lending his credit card to a customer who forgot their own while trying to catch a flight at the airport.

The company, Taxi Kurir, awarded Omer Temel with 13,000 Swedish krona ($1,360) for his “heroic” action.

“We are proud to work with Omer, ” said Sadegh Banaie, assistant general manager for Taxi Kurir.

“I got this award on behalf of the Turkish nation, ” said Omer Temel to Anadolu Agency after the ceremony.

“I would like to continue o represent my country and people in the best way possible, ” he added.

Last week, Temel made headlines in Sweden for giving his personal credit card to a customer who had forgotten their wallet while heading to the airport for three-days business trip to Germany.

Temel was hailed as a hero for his action and hailed by both Swedish and Turkish people.
