Turkish stocks start week down

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped 0.49% or 471.63 points to open at 96,389.79 points Monday.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index decreased 0.03% to close the week at 96,861.42 points with a daily trading volume of 2.4 billion Turkish liras ($414 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.8300 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to previous closing rate of 5.8080.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also rose to 6.5540, versus 6.5400 at last week's close.

One British pound traded for 7.5950 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.5470 at market close on Friday.

The price of Brent oil was around $73.60 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Monday.
