MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – A Turkish charity has managed to establish a music class in Kiziltepe district for village students.

Members of Play for Kids Association ran a donation campaign on social media and collected musical instruments including violins, melodicas, and an organ. They then set out and turned a classroom in a school in Senyurt Village in southeastern Mardin province that borders Syria, into a music class.

The head of the Association, Ibrahim Yalcin, told Anadolu Agency the group wanted to provide musical instruments and painting materials to village schools to make students engage in artistic activities.

“The request came from our teachers. We grasped at it and brought musical instruments thanks to the campaign we started on social media titled, Make a Kid Laugh in New Year,” Yalcin said.

He said it was the first time many students played a violin.

“We will also perform music shows for our children in the school. We want to leave a memorable mark on our children's minds,” Yalcin added.

Yalcin went on to say that his group established 18 music classes, and 25 students in those classes was accepted to fine arts high schools.
