Turkey's sports world greets Anadolu Agency's centenary

ANKARA (AA) – Prominent institutions and figures from Turkey’s sports community felicitated Anadolu Agency on its 100th anniversary on Monday.

Turkey's Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Kasapoglu hailed the Agency’s “principled and unbiased journalism” as a reason for its enduring success.

“Happy 100th anniversary to Anadolu Agency, which has successfully completed its journey, which started as the voice of our Anatolia during the [Turkish] War of Independence, with its principled and unbiased journalism,” the minister said in a tweet.

The Turkish Football Federation issued a statement wishing the Agency well for its future.

“We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Anadolu Agency, which was founded on April 6, 1920, to announce the voice of our nation to the world when the Turkish War of Independence started, led by our great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. We wish many successful years to Anadolu Agency, which has witnessed every step of our country,” read the statement.

Similar messages and statements were also shared by the head of the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation Eren Uclertopragi, Turkish Basketball Federation President Hidayet Turkoglu, Turkish Gymnastics Federation President Suat Celen, Turkish Weightlifting Federation President Tamer Taspinar, Turkish Curling Federation head Kenan Sebin, Turkish Ski Federation President Ali Oto, Turkish Volleyball Federation head Mehmet Akif Ustundag, and Turkish Chess Federation President Gulkiz Tulay.

In addition to the country’s top sports bodies, Turkey’s leading sports clubs also congratulated Anadolu Agency.

“On its 100th anniversary, we congratulate Anadolu Agency, which started its publication life on April 6, 1920, with the aim of announcing the voice of Anatolia to the world on the order of our great leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk,” Fenerbahce said in a tweet.

Galatasaray also posted a message on Twitter: “We congratulate Anadolu Agency on its 100th anniversary, which was founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to announce the voice of Anatolia to the world during our War of Independence.”

Similar messages of celebrations and good wishes for the Agency were also posted by Besiktas and Trabzonspor.

Anadolu Agency is viewed as one of the world's most prestigious news agencies, currently producing news in 13 languages and serving 6,000 subscribers in 100 countries with at least 3,000 employees stationed in 100 countries.
