LONDON (AA) – Turkey's newly appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom Umit Yalcin praised the world-wide reach of Anadolu Agency saying he was “proud” of its performance.

On a visit to Anadolu Agency offices on Monday, Yalcin was briefed about the agency’s news coverage in the U.K. and Ireland.

Stating that the agency will celebrate the centennial foundation anniversary in 2020, Yalcin underlined the importance of its news coverage in various languages and the effect it created.

He said the U.K. was going through a critical period with the Brexit decision and underlined that the bilateral relations of this country with Turkey improved significantly in the past few years.

He added the Turkish people who have come and settled down in the U.K. since the 1960s contributed to U.K.-Turkey relations, adding that the embassy’s doors will always be open to those citizens.

Yalcin was appointed as the London ambassador on Sept. 20 and commenced this post on Oct. 1 succeeding ambassador Abdurrahman Bilgic.
