Turkey's CHP celebrates 95th foundation anniversary

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) celebrated its 95th foundation anniversary on Sunday.

Speaking at the party's provincial heads meeting in capital Ankara, CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu said the party will see many more years.

“Next generations will also continue the struggle that was given to us by the previous generations, ” Kilicdaroglu said.

CHP members also visited the mausoleum of the founder of the party and the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, to mark the anniversary of the party's foundation.

The party was founded on Sept. 9 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk; it was the single ruling party of Turkey from 1923 until 1950.

Since 1950, the CHP has been part of ruling coalitions several times.
