Turkey’s CHP calls for common stance against terrorism

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey will defeat terrorism “sooner or later” with its ongoing fight, said a senior official of the country’s main opposition party.

“The politics based on terrorism cannot get along with Turkey, ” said Akif Hamzacebi, secretary general of Republican People's Party (CHP), in the parliament.

Hamzacebi's remarks came hours after seven Turkish soldiers were martyred and two others wounded in a PKK terror attack on Thursday in southeastern Batman province.

The incident took place when terrorists detonated an improvised explosive planted on the road when an armored military vehicle passed through the area.

Hamzacebi called on “all people in this land to show a common stance against terrorism. ”

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the death of some 40,000 people, including women and children.
