Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at opening session

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.77 percent, or 756,85 points, to open at 99,223.27 points Wednesday.

The banking and holding sector indices rose 1.47 percent and 0.47 percent, respectively.

All sector indices started the day on the rise as the banking sector index posted the best performance.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 98,466.42, down 0.17 percent, or 164.85 points, with a trading volume of 8.7 billion liras ($1.5 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate dropped by over 1.6 percent to 5.6840 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday. It was 5.7780 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate was also down at 6.5770 by market open — from 6.7020 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 7.5090 Turkish liras over 7.6440 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil rose to $81.59 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday, compared to $80.80 on Tuesday.
