Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at opening session

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.28 percent, or 258.75 points, to open at 93.532,90 points on Monday.

On the first transaction day of the week, the banking and holding sector indices rose 0.07 percent and 0.17 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the wholesale retail trade sector index posted the best performance, up 1.55 percent, while the investment trusts sector index did the worst, losing 0.06 percent.

Last week, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed Friday at 93,274.15, up 0.55 percent, or 510.84 points, with a trading volume of 5.7 billion Turkish liras ($886.7 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rose slightly to 6.4790 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Monday. It was 6.4500 at Friday's close.

The euro/Lira exchange rate also increased to 7.4860 by market open — from 7.4690 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 8.4025 Turkish liras versus 8.3620 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil rose to $77.50 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Monday, compared to $76.22 on Friday.
