Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index went up 0.10 percent to close at 93,970.16 points on Wednesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 93,047.56 points and surged 89.67 points from Tuesday's close.

During midweek trading, the BIST 100 peaked at 94,197.86 points, while its daily low was 92,847.71 points.

With a trade volume of 6.08 billion Turkish liras ($1.13 billion), the BIST 100's total market value was around 612.4 billion liras ($116.2 billion) as of daily close.

Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.28 billion), private lender Garanti Bankasi ($6.23 billion), and energy company Tupras ($6 billion) were the most valuable listed companies.

Garanti Bankasi, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and lender Akbank posted the highest trade volumes on Wednesday.

Compared to Tuesday's close, 47 stocks on the BIST 100 rose, 41 declined, and 12 were flat.

Stocks of energy and construction company Isiklar Enerji Yapi Holding (IEYHO) were the top gainers, up 7.89 percent, as shares of prominent Turkish conglomerate Sabanci Holding (SAHOL) dipped the most, losing 5.08 percent.

Standing at 5.3120 at close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell from Tuesday's close of 5.3820.

The euro/lira rate also declined at close on Wednesday, 6.0360 versus 6.1330 at the previous close.

One British pound was traded for 6.7970 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.8820 at close on Tuesday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,238.20 by market close, down from $1,240.00 a day ago.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for $63 as of 7 p.m. (1600GMT) Wednesday, after hovering between $60.80 and $63.27 during the day.
