Turkey's Borsa Istanbul hits historical high at opening

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.53% or 659.8 points on Wednesday to start the day at 124,215.90 points, hitting historical high.

At Tuesday's closing, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up 0.76% at 123,556.10 points with a daily trading volume of 12.6 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.9430 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared to Tuesday's closing rate of 5.9320.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 6.5880, versus 6.5920, and one British pound traded for 7.7780 Turkish liras. It was 7.7700 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $64.30 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
