Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange fell 0.11 percent, or 109.59 points, to open at 98,427.55 points on Tuesday.

On the second transaction day of the week, the banking sector index lost 0.32 percent, while the holding sector index gained 0.08 percent.

Among all sector indices, the BIST information technology sector posted the best performance, up 1.12 percent, while the telecommunication sector saw the worst drop, down 0.84 percent.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 98,537.15, down 1.42 percent, or 1,419.75 points, with a trading volume of 9 billion Turkish liras (around $1.5 billion).

The USD/TRY lira exchange rose to 5.9860 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday. It was 5.9510 at Monday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate fell slightly to 6.9010 by market open — from 6.9130 at the previous close.

The GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.8000 on Tuesday, while one British pound traded for 7.7850 Turkish liras at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil stood at $85.10 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Tuesday, compared to $84.98 on Monday's close — up from around $66 at the beginning of 2018.
