ANKARA (AA) – Turkish president said on Saturday that they are striving to make sports activities accessible to all across the country.

“We believe wholeheartedly that sport is for everyone,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the opening ceremony of Burhan Felek Athletics Stadium in Istanbul.

He said the newly-launched stadium will serve 24/7.

Erdogan said Turkey built many sport complexes over the last 17 years.

With investments in sport complexes, Turkey is shining in the sports tourism globally, he said.

On 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Erdogan voiced support for Turkish athletes joining the global games.

“We believe and trust all our athletes who will represent our country in the Olympics. I believe they will achieve success both in individual and collective sports categories,” he added.

Erdogan also said basketball player Shane Larkin, whose application to be a Turkish citizen was accepted on Friday, will join Turkish national team.
