Turkey wins 2 medals in women's para athletics

BERLIN (AA) – Two Turkish athletes won the gold and silver medals on Thursday in the 2018 Para Athletics European Championships in Germany.

On the fourth day of the championships held in Berlin’s Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn -portpark, Hamide Kurt claimed the gold medal, at 57.76 seconds in the women’s 400m weelchair race (T53 category), beating the British athlete Tanni Grey-Thompson’s record of 1:03.45.

Zeynep Acet won the silver medal with a time of 1:09.62 in the same category. Another Turkish athlete Nursah Usta completed the race in fourth place at 1:13.11.

Tanja Henseler of Switzerland won the bronze medal.

Kurt and Acet also won gold and silver medals respectively in the women’s 200m T53 category on Tuesday.
