ANKARA (AA) – Turkey and Tatarstan should enhance bilateral economic relations, the Turkish parliament speaker said on Thursday.

In a meeting with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov in the capital Ankara, Mustafa Sentop said that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected economic and commercial relations between countries.

“This was also reflected in our overall trade volume with Russia,” Sentop noted.

"I believe that the trade of our countries will greatly contribute to improve this situation experienced last year and to reach the $100 billion trade volume target (between Turkey and Russia)," he said.

Sentop added that Turkey and Tatarstan have the potential to increase their annual bilateral trade volume to $1 billion.

Minnikhanov, for his part, said that they were pleased with their high-level relations with Turkey.

“We should improve inter-parliamentary relations between Tatarstan and Turkey,” he added.
