ISTANBUL (AA) – At least 26 suspects have been remanded into custody in a probe against the “military structuring of FETO, ” the group behind the 2016 defeated coup in Turkey, judicial sources said Thursday.

The 26 suspects, including three covert imams and 23 active soldiers, were taken into custody by an Istanbul court for secret structuring in the military, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen are alleged to have orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
