ANKARA (AA) – Turkey has praised Sudan’s ongoing “national dialogue” initiative, which calls for an end to the country’s longstanding conflicts, better guarantees for civil liberties, and the alleviation of poverty.
“We believe that complying with the national dialogue process with the support of the international community would make a significant contribution to Sudan’s welfare and stability,” the foreign ministry said in a statement late Friday.
Turkey supports political consensus and national dialogue efforts which are “critical” for Sudan’s political integrity and future, the statement added.
Omar al-Bashir, president of the northeast African country, vowed to implement recommendations made in the context of his “national dialogue” initiative that wrapped up on Monday, including formation of a consensus government.
Al-Bashir launched the national dialogue in early 2014. The initiative has been boycotted, however, by a number of rebel leaders and main opposition parties, including Sudan’s National Umma Party.
