DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) – One police officer was martyred and another was injured in a PKK terrorist attack in southeastern Turkey on Monday, security sources said.

PKK terrorists fired at a police car in Hani in the southeastern Diyarbakir province, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media,

Two police officers injured in the attack were taken to Selahaddin Eyyubi State Hospital in the province, where one later succumbed to wounds received, the source added.

An operation was launched in the area to apprehend the terrorists.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
