Turkey: Over 9 tons of drugs seized in Istanbul in 2018

By Huseyin Bagis </p> <p>ISTANBUL (AA) – Anti-drug police confiscated over nine tons of drugs in Istanbul in 2018, according to a police report on Monday.</p> <p>In 685 operations across the city, anti-drug department of Istanbul police seized nearly 6.6 million pills this year, the report issued by the Istanbul police headquarters revealed. </p> <p>The police arrested over 63,000 suspects during the operations. Nearly 6,000 of them were remanded into custody, it added.</p> <p>According to the report, number of suspects arrested increased by 39 percent compared to 2017.</p> <p>The amount of drugs and pills seized also rose by 17 percent compared to the last year.
