Turkey: Galatasaray vice-chairman to be discharged

ANKARA (AA) – The vice-chairman of the Turkish Super Lig club Galatasaray will be discharged from the hospital Tuesday after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Abdurrahim Albayrak, 65, said on Twitter the rest of his treatment will continue at home after spending 14 days in the hospital.

The Lions confirmed March 23 he tested positive for the virus known as COVID-19.

Albayrak had become Galatasaray's vice-chairman in an annual general assembly in 2018.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey reached 168 Monday, with 10,827 diagnosed, according to health officials.

After first appearing in Wuhan, China in December, the virus has spread to at least 179 countries and regions, according to data compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

The number of confirmed cases worldwide has surpassed 803,000, while the death toll is more than 39,000. Nearly 173,000 patients have recovered.
