Turkey elected as council member of ITU for 5th time

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey has been elected as a council member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the fifth time, the country’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

“The Council elections of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations (UN) specialized agency which aims to coordinate the communication networks and services on a global scale was held in Dubai on 5 November 2018, ” the ministry said in a statement.

It added Turkey received support of 146 member countries in the elections.

With its 193 member countries, ITU allocates global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develop the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strive to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.
