ANKARA (AA) – The leader of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has called on the country's highest court to quickly deliver its ruling on a jailed party MP convicted in an espionage case.

“I make a clear call on the members of the Constitutional Court. We are waiting for you to pass an immediate ruling no matter what, ” Kemal Kilicdaroglu told lawmakers of his party at parliament on Tuesday.

Kilicdaroglu criticized the court for “slowing down ” the trial process.

“You are causing injustice. You are making an issue of injustice, ” he said.

CHP deputy Berberoglu was initially sentenced to 25 years in June 2017 by a penal court on the grounds that he had leaked the details of a secret intelligence operation to a newspaper. His case was appealed and later forwarded to another court in Istanbul.

The Istanbul court has delivered the final verdict and found him guilty of leaking to Can Dundar, the then editor-in-chief of the Cumhuriyet daily, footage showing National Intelligence Organization's trucks being stopped en route to Syria in January 2014.
