Turkey: Anadolu Agency to be named News Agency of Year

ANKARA (AA) – Anadolu Agency is to be named News Agency of the Year in Turkey in the upcoming sixth Anatolian Media Awards, the Association of Anatolian Publishers (AYD) announced Wednesday.

In a press conference in the capital Ankara, AYD chief Sinan Burhan said that in an award ceremony to be held at a later date, Turkey's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun would receive this year's Communication Award.

Underlining that this year's winners had been chosen in discussions with members of the media from throughout the country, Burhan said the award ceremony would be held in a democratic and pluralistic manner with accolades to be presented to poets, authors and scientists along with the radio, television, press and internet media

On Altun's award, Burhan said the communications director "manifests the indigenous and national understanding of media." "He successfully represents Turkey both in the country, as well as abroad."

He added that the date of the award ceremony would be announced in the coming days.
