EDIRNE, Turkey (AA) – At least nine FETO suspects were arrested in Turkey while attempting to illegally cross to neighboring Greece, security sources said on Friday.
In a security operation, three FETO-linked former teachers were held by gendarmes in northwestern Edirne province, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.
In a separate operation in Kesan district of Edirne, gendarmes arrested two FETO suspects including a former sergeant.
Four others were held for helping the FETO suspects.
FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup attempt of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Ankara also accuses FETO of carrying out a long-running campaign to overthrow the Turkish state through the infiltration of state institutions.
