Sudan: One protester killed in Darfur

<p>By Mohammed Amin</p> <p>KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – One protester has been killed in Sudan’s Darfur region by government forces, said a doctors group on Sunday.</p> <p>The protester was killed when government forces fired live bullets and tear gas at sit-in protesters in front of army headquarters in the city of Nyala on Saturday, said the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors.</p> <p>Saad Mohamed Ahmed, a young man from Nyala, died, while at least five protesters were injured, it said.</p> <p>Decrying the shooting, it added: “We hold the military council responsible for any use of violence against the protesters and sit-ins all over the country.”</p> <p>Demonstrators throughout Sudan have staged sit-in protests before and after the military ouster last month of longtime President Omar al-Bashir.</p> <p>After the ouster, the army established a military council to run the country for a transitional period of two years, but protesters have called for the transfer of power to a civilian government.</p>
