Soldier succumbs to injuries in SE Turkey

ANKARA (AA) – A Turkish soldier, who was injured in a PKK terror attack in southeastern Hakkari province on Wednesday, has succumbed to his injuries, the country’s Defense Ministry said.

The soldier, who was injured in Derecik region, was martyred despite efforts to save his life at the hospital, a ministry statement said.

Operations are being conducted in the region against the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the U.S. and the European Union.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
