LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) – Two riot policemen and a civilian were killed Wednesday morning in a sporadic shooting in northwestern Kaduna state, a police spokesman said.

“Yes, two of our men were killed on duty in Nasarawa area early today. A civilian was also killed while three other policemen were injured,” Yakubu Sabo, spokesman for the Kaduna police command, told Anadolu Agency by phone.

Sabo said investigation has begun into the incident but did not say if any arrests have been made.

Locals said the policemen were attached to a multinational company IBBI where the shootings occurred.

“We don't know if the attackers wanted to abduct anybody or they were just armed robbers wanting to rob the firm,” Labo Abdullahi, a resident of the area, told Anadolu Agency.
