BRUSSELS (AA) – Serbian and Kosovar presidents met in Brussels on Thursday as part of a Belgrade-Pristina dialogue process.

The meeting was hosted by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

According to a statement from the EU, necessary steps for the way forward were discussed during the meeting

“The European Union expects Serbia and Kosovo to swiftly deliver on their commitment to the Dialogue given the direct link between comprehensive normalization of relations between them and the concrete prospects for their EU aspirations, ” the statement read.

Mogherini emphasized the need for Kosovo and Serbia to refrain from words, actions and measures that are contrary to the spirit of normalization, it said.

Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008.

Serbia rejected the move and considers Kosovo its own territory, while more than 100 countries worldwide — including Turkey, the U.S., Britain, France, and Germany — recognize it as an independent country.
