Russia detains 2 national football players

ISTANBUL (AA) – A local court in Moscow issued detention order for two Russian professional football players on charges of hooliganism and violent attacks.

According to the court order, Alexander Kokorin and Pavel Mamayev will be held in custody until Dec. 8 over the attacks, local broadcaster Russian Today reported.

The detention came after video emerged of Kokorin and Mamayev in which they can be seen attacking a driver of a television host and damaged her car.

In another footage, the two footballers are found attacking Russian trade ministry officials in a cafe.

According to RT, the crime carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Russian football clubs are expected to terminate their contracts with a lifetime ban from domestic leagues.
