IDLIB, Syria (AA) – Regime artillery fire killed two civilians on Tuesday in opposition-held parts of Hama province, Syrian civil-defense officials said Tuesday.
Officials from the White Helmets civil-defense agency told Anadolu Agency that the towns of Al-Lataminah, Al-Zakah and Habait had all been targeted by regime shelling.
According to local sources, a mother and child were both killed in the attacks.
Located on the banks of the Orontes River in west-central Syria, the targeted area falls within a network of “de-escalation zones” in which acts of aggression are expressly prohibited.
Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011, when the ruling Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
