Palestinian teenager succumbs to wounds in Gaza

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – A Palestinian teenager on Tuesday succumbed to wounds he sustained from Israeli army gunfire during rallies near the buffer zone between Gaza and Israel, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

“Seventeen-year-old Montaser Mohamed Ismail al-Baz was martyred due to wounds he sustained earlier today by Israeli army gunfire near the eastern border of Bureij Palestinian refugee camp in the centre of the enclave,” Ashraf al-Qidra, ministry spokesman, said in a statement.

In an earlier statement, the ministry announced that al-Baz was seriously injured in the head.

Since the rallies began on March 30, more than 200 Palestinians have been killed near the buffer zone — and thousands more injured — by Israeli army gunfire.

Protesters demand the right to return to their homes and villages in historical Palestine, from which they were driven in 1948 to make way for the new state of Israel.

They also demand an end to Israel’s 12-year blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has gutted the coastal enclave’s economy and deprived its 2 million inhabitants of many basic commodities.
