Palestinian child martyred in Gaza by Israeli army

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – A Palestinian child was martyred on Friday — and another eight people injured — by Israeli army gunfire near the Gaza-Israel buffer zone.

In a statement, Gaza’s Health Ministry said a 14-year-old boy — whose name was not given — had been fatally shot in the head by Israeli troops east of Gaza’s town of Jabalia.

Eight other Palestinians, including three children, were reportedly injured by army gunfire elsewhere along the buffer zone.

On Friday, Palestinians converged on the border area to take part in ongoing demonstrations against Israel’s decades-long occupation.

Since the rallies began on March 30, scores of Palestinians have been martyred — and thousands more injured — by Israeli troops.

Protesters demand the “right of return” to their homes and villages in historical Palestine from which they were driven in 1948 to make way for the new state of Israel.

They also demand an end to Israel’s 11-year blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has gutted the coastal enclave’s economy and deprived its more than two million inhabitants of many basic commodities.
