ISLAMABAD (AA) – At least 15 people were killed and 27 others injured when a bus collided with an oil tanker in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, a police official said.
The accident occurred in Lachi in the district Kohat of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
“So far 15 people, including two women, were killed, and 27 others wounded,” Fazal Naeem, Kohat Police spokesman, told Anadolu Agency over the phone.
The injured were taken to the local Kohat hospital, where some are in critical condition, he added.
The bus was carrying nearly 50 passengers from the Bunir district headed to Karachi, Pakistan's southeastern port city.
Pakistan has a long history of road and rail accidents, mainly due to poor infrastructure and a lack of safety standards.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, over 9,000 road accidents are reported to police every year, killing around 5,000 people annually.
