Nigerian-American basketball player Ojo dies at 27

ANKARA (AA) – A Nigerian-American basketball player, Michael Ojo died of heart attack on Friday.

"KK Crvena Zvezda mts informs the public with great sadness and regret that the former player of our club, Michael Ojo, passed away suddenly on Friday at the age of 27 in Belgrade," Serbian club Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) said in a statement.

Ojo made his way to Serbia in 2017 to play for FMP Belgrade.

Crvena Zvezda signed him for the 2018-19 season and Ojo played for the club for two seasons.

He won the Serbian league in 2019.

His deal with Crvena Zvezda expired on June 30, so Ojo became free agent this summer.

Crvena Zvezda added that the club was shocked over Ojo's sudden death.

The date and place for his funeral will be announced later.

Meanwhile Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) and many clubs in Turkey such as Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce Beko, Besiktas, and Galatasaray sent their condolences each to the family and friends of Ojo and Crvena Zvezda.
