LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) – The Nigerian army has said another schoolgirl from a group of over 200 abducted by Boko Haram has been freed.
Serah Luka had been taken from her dormitory on April 14, 2014.
Luka’s release comes barely two days after one of her abducted colleagues, Amina Ali, emerged from captivity along with a newborn child and a man purported to be her companion.
Army spokesman Sani Usman said late Thursday that Luka was freed along with 96 other women and children during a clearance operation at different villages of Damboa local government area of northeastern Borno state.
Usman said: “We are glad to state that among those rescued is a girl believed to be one of the Chibok Government Secondary School girls that were abducted …by the Boko Haram terrorists.
“Her name is Miss Serah Luka, who is number 157 on the list of the abducted schoolgirls. She is believed to be the daughter of Pastor Luka. During debriefing the girl revealed that she was a JSS1 student of the school at the time they were abducted. She further added that she hails from Madagali, Adamawa State,” the statement added.
Usman said at least 35 militants were killed during the operation conducted by government troops with local operatives.
