ANKARA (AA) – At least 14 people were killed over the last two weeks by heavy rainfall and flooding that struck northern Nicaragua, the local media reported Friday.

The floods claimed eight lives over the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 14, according to local media.

More than 150,000 families have been affected by the heavy rains that hit northern Nicaragua for a month.

The government issued a red alert on Tuesday in six regions near Pacific coast.

The intensified showers would continue for two more days, the meteorology institution said Thursday.
