New members of Bosnia's Presidency Council sworn in

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) – Newly elected members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been sworn in on Tuesday.

Sefik Dzaferovic, the Bosniak member; Zeljko Komsic, the Croat member; and Milorad Dodik, the Serb member sworn in for the Presidency Council.

Assessing developments in the four-year term, former Bosniak member Bakir Izetbegovic said the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the Euro-Atlantic institutions has finally begun.

Dodik, who will chair the council for the next 8 months, said Bosnia and Herzegovina's main goal should be to join the European Union and to take steps to improve relations with the U.S.

Dragan Covic, who had been the Croat member of the Council for the past four years, did not attend the ceremony.

In the elections held on Oct. 7, the Democratic Action Party (SDA) candidate Dzaferovic won 36.6 percent of the votes, while the Democratic Front (DF) candidate Komsic won 52.6 percent of the votes.

Alliance of Independent Social Democrats’ (SNSD) candidate Dodik had won 53.8 percent of the votes as the Serb member of the council.

The members, elected for a period of four years, serve as the council chair for 8 months.
