Men nabbed in explosive-laden car remanded in SE Turkey

MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – Three suspects arrested in southeastern Turkey in a vehicle equipped with explosives were remanded in custody on Friday.

The suspects, identified by the initials A.B, V.T., and F.T., were caught on Nov. 1 during a road check along the Ceylanpinar-Kiziltepe highway in the Mardin province. Their vehicle had nearly 250 kilograms (551 pounds) of explosives inside.

The explosive material in the vehicle was identified as pentaerythritol tetranitrate, also known as PETN.

The large amount of explosives and other associated devices inside the vehicle could have been used in 32 terror attacks, said Mardin Governor Mustafa Yaman.
