Mazda South Africa recalls vehicles over faulty airbags

By Hassan Isilow

JOHANNESBURG (AA) – Mazda have recalled 19,000 vehicles in South Africa thought to have been fitted with faulty airbag inflators, the company said Monday.

The affected models include Mazda2, Mazda6 and Mazda RX-8 cars made from 2003, Mazda South Africa said in a statement.

They are being recalled “due to possible faulty airbag inflators that may cause the airbag to not deploy correctly, which may lead to injury,” the firm added.

Two years ago, Mazda recalled Mazda6 models due to faulty airbags produced by Takata. The airbags had been linked to more than a dozen deaths in the U.S. and Malaysia.
