Kyrgyzstan wins World Nomad Games 2018

CHOLPON-ATA, Kyrgyzstan (AA) – Host nation Kyrgyzstan has bagged the most medals in the World Nomad Games 2018 in northern Cholpon-Ata province with 103 medals.

The contest, which saw participation of 1,986 athletes from 74 countries, ended on Saturday.

Kyrgyzstan's medals included 40 gold, 32 silver and 31 bronze medals.

Kazakhstan was the runner-up, with 35 medals, including eight gold and 24 silver.

Russia came third with 17 gold, 12 silver and 27 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Turkey came in the 10th place with six medals, including two gold and one silver in long range archery. Turkey also bagged three bronze in wrestling.

Turkish Airlines, Turkey's flag-carrier air company, was one of the main sponsors of the contest.

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) was one of the supporters of the Nomad Games.

Canadian mining company Centerra Gold and Kyrgyz mobile phone operator MEGAKOM were the other main sponsors.

Anadolu Agency and Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) were media partners.

Speaking at a news conference, First Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Boronov termed the World Nomad Games as very successful.

Boronov thanked the Krygyz people, all institutions, athletes, guests, sports delegations, press members, spectators, business people and volunteers for their efforts.

He said this year's games had contributed to people's unity and solidarity.

He added $4.3 million had been allocated for holding the games, $2.4 million was received from 480 sponsors and $507,000 were allocated to the awards.

Separately, Boronov also said that the Fourth World Nomad Games will be held in Turkey in 2020.
