ERBIL, Iraq (AA) – Nechirvan Barzani, prime minister of northern Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), has called on the region’s inhabitants to take part in regional parliamentary polls slated for Sunday (Sept. 30).

“I call on our people to go to the polls to elect representatives for four-year parliamentary terms,” Barzani said while attending the inauguration of a new road.

“With the people’s help, the KRG will strive to bring stability — and better economic conditions — to the Kurdish region,” he added.

Slated for Sunday, the poll will see more than 700 candidates — organized into two main coalitions — vie for 100 out of 111 seats on the region’s legislative assembly.
