ERBIL (AA) – British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and Kurdish Regional Government’s (KRG) President Nechirvan Barzani met in Erbil, northern Iraq on Wednesday and discussed a range of issues including the fight against Daesh/ISIS terror group.

The two addressed a joint press conference after the meeting.

“The UK’s commitment to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq is steadfast,” Raab tweeted. ''It was a pleasure to visit Erbil today to support regional stability, promote media freedom and counter the threat from Daesh with Nechirvan Barzani.''

Barzani said he "discussed bilateral ties, war against terrorism, upcoming Iraqi elections and other pressing issues" in the meeting. "I thanked the UK for its continued support to the Kurdistan Region,” he wrote on Twitter.

The foreign secretary’s visit comes a day after he met Iraqi President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein in Baghdad. He also visited commanders from the Global Coalition against the terror group, and NATO.

He reiterated UK’s commitment to Iraq through signing the UK and Iraq’s Strategic Partnership.
