Israeli court slaps Palestinian with 11-year jail term

By Osama Ghassani</p> <p><br></p> <p>JERUSALEM (AA) – An Israeli court has sentenced a young Palestinian man to 11 years behind bars for allegedly planning to assassinate the Israeli prime minister and other officials, according to accounts in the Israeli press.</p> <p><br></p> <p>Jamal Rashda, who holds Israeli citizenship, was convicted earlier of “conspiracy to commit murder”, “aiding the enemy in a time of war” and “espionage”, Israeli daily Israel Hayom reported Thursday.</p> <p><br></p> <p>According to the newspaper, Rashda was convicted for allegedly planning an attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials, including former Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.</p> <p><br></p> <p>The newspaper went on to allege that Rashda had “reported to terrorists in Syria” and had been “planning attacks on buildings affiliated with the American consulate” in Jerusalem.
