JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army rounded up 16 Palestinians in overnight raids across the occupied West Bank, according to an army statement issued Thursday.

The Palestinians were detained for suspected involvement in “terrorist activities”, the army asserted, adding that they had since been referred to investigation by Israeli security personnel.

The Israeli army frequently carries out wide-ranging arrest campaigns in the occupied West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted ” Palestinians.

According to Palestinian figures, more than 6,400 Palestinians are currently being held in detention facilities throughout Israel.
